Nestled in the Sierra Madre Oriental - the eastern side of the twin mountain ranges flowing down the length of Mexico - Tamazunchale is a colonial city whose importance faded when the main road connecting Mexico City with Monterrey and Nuevo Laredo was shifted to the Central Plateau. It is in the heart of the Huasteca country where many Spanish traditions are still maintained.
Tamazunchale is gaining popularity these days as it is close to the village of Xilitla where an eccentric american millionaire by the name of Edward James built an exotic mansion with large statues. Tamazunchale is also popular with bird watchers as they claim over 200 species of birds can be found in the surrounding area. |
