Description Irrigation project on the Rio Grande financed jointly by the U.S. and Mexican Governments. Feasibility studies, preliminary plans and technical surveys were announced in a Presidential meeting in Ciudad Acuņa between Dwight D. Eisenhower and Adolfo Lopez Mateos in October 1960. Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson and Gustavo Diaz Ordaz met at the site in December 1966 to inspect construction progress and proclaim the project "an outstanding example of how two neighbor countries can resolve their common boundary problems with benefit to both". In September 1969, Presidents Gustavo Diaz Ordaz and Richard M. Nixon met at Presa de la Amistad to celebrate completion of the $78 million dollar six-mile long project.
